Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007)

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007) established energy management goals and requirements while also amending portions of the National Energy Conservation Policy Act (NECPA). It was signed into law on December 19, 2007.

To comply with the Energy Reduction Goals for Federal Buildings, each agency must apply energy conservation measures to, and shall improve the design for the construction of, the Federal buildings of the agency (including each industrial or laboratory facility) so that the energy consumption per gross square foot of the Federal buildings of the agency is reduced on a sliding scale from 18% in 2011 to 30% by 2030, as compared with the energy consumption per gross square foot of the Federal buildings of the agency in fiscal year 2003.

Section 433 also requires that sustainable design principles be applied to the siting, design, and construction of buildings subject to the standards.
